The Daily Meme

It takes more than 150 chickens to produce the flesh of one cow.
Sources: Finding absolute numbers on this is difficult, since the animals are slaughtered at different weights and there are differing definitions about what is considered edible flesh. But according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, cattle are killed when they reach 1,000 pounds, and this animal's body will yield 430 pounds of "retail cuts". And according to House to Homestead, a 4.2 lb chicken carcass contains 62% (about 2.6 pounds) of flesh they were willing to eat. So 430 lbs (one cow) 2.6 lbs (one chicken) = 165 chickens per cow. Other sources give different numbers, but they all add up to more than 150 chickens per cow.

Vegan Street uses compelling storytelling, images and tools help build and strengthen the vegan community, and to make it easier and more desirable to adopt and maintain a vegan diet and lifestyle. Each week, we create original Vegan Street Memes, essays, recipes, home and bodycare tips, interviews, reviews of books, products, films and much, much more. We are able to continue to dedicate our time to this work thanks to the encouragement of allies from the larger advocacy community who see the value of our work. If you think our work makes an important contribution and is worthy of support, please consider visiting our Patreon page or shopping at the Vegan Street Store to help us be able to dedicate our time to promoting veganism.
